My local Honda dealer has a certified 2013 Civic Si (black) with 28,000 miles selling for $18,900. It looks like I will get first crack at it if I want it. I would prefer red, but beggars can’t be choosers. I think I should jump on it. What do y’all think?

Do it do it do it

I'd go for it. Not sure if the price is good or not, but those seem like fun commuters.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:19 |

Don't. I'm guessing somebody couldn't afford their payments or something and flogged the shit out of it.

Price looks good, at least according to KBB.

Tell the salesman, “ I really like the car. I do have one request and i’ll take her off your hands before the sales quarter ends. $17,000 or GTFAC !!!!!!!!!”

If you can live with the fact the next gen Si is goin to be light years faster and prolly push down prices even more..do it
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:21 |

That’s what I’m thinking. :D
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:23 |

Price seems a little high to me but otherwise I’ve heard pretty good things about the Si, although not quite as good as the FoST or GTI

My wife and I don’t like the new Civic. It’s too big.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:24 |

Wait for the next one.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:24 |

According to KBB, it’s right in the ballpark.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:24 |

Do it. Looks nice.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:25 |

Why? It’s my understanding that these are pretty rare on the certified used market, and don’t stay around long. This one isn’t even on the lot yet, but the salesman called me because he knows I’m interested. I will say, though, that I had wanted to do some more looking, specifically at Ford and VW.

Get something in color. Something in matte blue.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:26 |

The next Si will be leaps and bounds better than this one.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:27 |

I just finished doing the same thing, that’s some great resale value for a 3 year old car
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:27 |

My gf is nearing the end of her 3 year lease on her 2013 Civic LX or whatever they call the base model. It’s...fine. Gets great mileage and has been completely trouble free, needed nothing but scheduled maintenance. But I’m not a huge fan of the overall layout of the car with the seats, dash, etc. Also when you move your foot from the brake pedal back to the gas, if you have a kind of tap action on the gas, the pedal makes this incredibly cheap sounding *plonk* noise every time.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:27 |

They’ve got a white EX-L that we really liked that they’re asking $15,900 for. He made noise like there is a lot of wiggle room on the price. I would be happy with either, but that Si sounds like a lot of fun. 200 horsepowerz! 6-speed stir stick! Leather leather leather! Not crazy about the faux carbon fiber dash, but I can learn to live with it.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:28 |

We drove an EX-L that we liked very much. No, not the fastest car, but peppy, and I really like the way it drove.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:29 |

Indeed.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:29 |

Not a fan of matte. My wife really wants red.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:31 |

Si sounds better dude. EX-L is cool as well. Push for the Si though. Their quarter is almost up. Push it!!!
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:32 |

Black is the only color I like these in.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:35 |

My wife wants heated seats. Does this thing have heated seats? The EX-L does.

To be honest, this generation of Civic presents nicely the first few times you drive it, the irritating things tend to present themselves over time. Like that stupid noise the gas pedal makes, it’s such a silly thing, but I’ve never had any other car make a noise like that when I move my foot into the gas. It’s not like I’m smashing onto the thing.
There’s kind of this mediocrity that you feel after living with it for a while. It’s not a bad car by any means, but I guess to me, Hondas used to just feel nicer than other cars even if they didn’t have any specific distinguishing feature, and the outgoing Civic doesn’t quite feel like that.
But if you’re looking for a fuel efficient, reliable, FWD economy sedan with a stick shift and some sportiness, there’s not really a ton of better options.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:40 |

Bang them down a bit on the price ... I’m Jewish, we like a bargain. But why not? It’s a nice car that will give you years of trouble-free driving pleasure. Black is the hardest to keep clean, however, so get them to throw in some car washes.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:40 |

a quick search on cargurus didn’t show any of the results to have heated seats.... but it may have a limited slip diff!! Yay :]

DO IT! but try to get a deal. These are perfect for the more mature individuals like you and I. Not so in your face, good to cart the kids around and a blast when you are on your own in the twisties.
That K-series really is a great little powerplant it will be uber reliable and has a good amount of spunk and that Honda shifter is amazing.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:45 |

i think we was more refering to the fact that if youw ait until the next one comes out, you can get it for even cheaper.

Thanks for the reply. We’ve got a 2003 Odyssey that we’ve taken across the country a few times, and it’s got 174k on the clock. We love it, and it’s held up wonderfully for the age and miles. Bought it off lease, btw.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:47 |

Now, there’s a thought. But I’ve got three boys to wash it!
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:48 |
|
Ok. That makes sense. I don’t think we’re in the market for a new car anyway.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:48 |

My dad paid me (not very much) to wash both cars. One had a white vinyl roof, and that took some serious fucking scrubbing.

The MSRP on this was around $22,700.
And looking at Edmonds, the going price for one with 30,000 to 40,000 miles is around $18,000-$19,000.
And on Autotrader, I see these selling for as much as $22,000 with 12,000-45,000 miles on them (crack pipe) and as little as $17,000 with 25,000-63,000 miles on them.
So my opinion is that $18,900 for one with 28,000 miles is just a “normal price”. Not low, not high... normal.
And I have to say that the rate of depreciation on these is very low... less than 20% depreciation after 3 years.
With that low rate of depreciation, it might be worth considering getting a new one instead... though the new SI isn’t out yet. And if you want a manual, at the moment, you can only get the manual on the base LX model which has around 40HP less than this 2013 SI.

We’re not crazy about the 16 Civic. It’s too big. And we really don’t want to buy new.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 17:58 |

In my experience, everybody likes a good deal.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:02 |

But on the other hand, the next Si will also cost quite a bit more as well most likely.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:04 |

If you overpay, such a shonda!
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:04 |

SV is correct. 8th gen Si’s go for 8-10k these days, I havent checked 9th gen yet but i expect the new Si to push prices really low
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:13 |

Yeah... the new Civic is now the size of the Accord from the late 1980s and 1990s. And while the trunk is bigger (around 15 cu ft) than in the previous model (around 12 cu ft), my Focus Wagon blows it away when it comes to cargo capacity (35 cu ft).
Don’t know if that matters to you, but it’s a factor in my car purchase decisions.
Many people who want a new Honda that is actually small are better off with the Fit.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:17 |
|
We looked at the Fit, and the HR-V, but the Fit was too small and the HR-V put me to sleep, even with a 6-speed. The Civic will by my wife’s DD, and it’s also big enough to haul all five of us in a pinch. I’m going to take the boys to look at VWs and Fords tomorrow morning.

You’re in Austin, right? Seat heaters take like an hour or so to install on a Civic. Even the Si.
Just a few hundred bucks and you’re right by home office so they're always on point with quality. Have then write the heaters into the deal.

Black cars are a PAIN to keep clean.
Edit: I read the thread. So you have sons, eh? Time to teach them how to claybar!
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:41 |

Thanks. I'll look into it. They're not for me, but my wife, who will DD it, sure likes the idea.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:53 |

But why though? It makes 4 motor HP than this:
To clarify I’m saying the last gen is the same thing, so why not spend less for it?
![]() 03/15/2016 at 18:54 |

I really like the Si, plus this is like the E9x M3, the last naturally aspirated Si. If I had been in the market about a year and a half ago I would have gotten an orange one. Great cars

Three kids means 4 doors are a must.

Yeah ... we’re out of our element ....
![]() 03/15/2016 at 20:30 |

I think it’s a great idea, and a good buy, but I would pay more like $17K for it.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 20:44 |

I think I'll be in a position to make an offer.
![]() 03/15/2016 at 21:11 |

Obligatory “why not look into a used ST?”
Better performance all around plus hatch for cargo.
But anyway, seems like a lot for a used SI value wise considering the MSRP.

Before I do anything, I’m going to VW and Ford tomorrow. I’ve been sitting at home for two days while the AC in my house was fixed. Two days lost...

Good idea. Truly, driving each car gives you do much insight.
I liked the gti as well, but not quite as much as my FoST.
![]() 03/16/2016 at 08:16 |

I mentioned the GTI to my wife last night, and she was hesitant. She feels that our 01 Golf is too small, and she feels a bit vulnerable in it. And while the Civic isn’t much larger, she felt more snug inside it. Since it will be her DD, that carries a lot of weight in the final decision. She needs to feel safe.
![]() 03/16/2016 at 10:00 |

Did you get to drive it yet?
Does it have a service history?
I always fear used sporty cars have been beaten on, but if it drives nicely and was maintained well that should alleviate some apprehension.
Black is good, it’ll keep the car from getting the wrong sort of attention.

Not yet. We’re going to VW and Ford this morning, and I hope to take the Si for a spin this afternoon. I really want my wife to drive it, since it will be her DD. And you make a good point about the color.
